Fairs and Festivals of India |

The festivals
of India can broadly be themed upon the rituals of the Indian religions celebrated by the people respectively. However, there are many festivals which are celebrated on the basis of Indian regional ethos, local traditions, seasonal and social festivities. This is not storming to believe the fact that India is famous in the world for its being the country of gods, goddesses, saints, gurus, prophets, fakirs and sanayasi |
. All these festivals of India are knows for their unique character mixed up of colour, gaiety, celebrations, feasts and a variety of prayers and rituals. There is not even a single day in which India does not celebrate one kind or another kind of fairs and festivals. That is why the land of India is sarcastically described as “A Land of Festivals”. Since India is a multi-religious and multi-lingual country, it is but natural to find fetes of all major religions in the world being celebrated in India. Thus, the famous festivals celebrated exclusively by the Hindu community and other communities of India in general are the festival of Holi, Dusshera, Janmashtmi, Hanuman Jayanti, Ganesh Chaturthi, Shivratri, Diwali etc. The famous festivals which are celebrated by the Muslim community of India are Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-zoha, Muharram, Shab-e-Barat etc. The famous festivals of Christians celebrated across the Indian subcontinent are Christmas, Easter, Good Friday Goa Carnival etc. Famous Sikh festivals of India are Gurunanak Jayanti, Holla Mohalla etc. The famous Jain festivals of India are Mahavir Jayanti, Deep Diwali etc. The Buddhist community of India celebrated the festivals of Buddha Purnima, Losar while the Parsi celebrated the festivals of Jamshed Navroz, Khordad Sal and Jewish celebrated the festivals of Feast of Passover and Purim. Besides these religious festivals of India, there are numerous other fairs and festivals that are based on the streams of secular or non-religious festivals like the harvest festivals, Raksha Bandhan, Karwa Chauth, cultural festivals, national festivals, regional festivals and local festivals of India. Besides these festivals of India, the famous Indian fairs are Rajasthan Pushkar Fair, Kumbh Mela at Prayag (Allahabad) and Haridwar in Uttar Pradesh, Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, Nasik in Maharashtra, Bihar Sonepur Fair, and Dadri Cattle Fair in Uttar Pradesh which attracted the tourist from almost all parts of the world.
